About TaxSoloist

TaxSoloist is a set of free calculators and plain-English guides for one specific problem: figuring out what you owe when nobody withholds taxes for you.

That covers 1099 contractors, freelancers, rideshare and delivery drivers, sellers on platforms like eBay, content creators, and anyone else who gets a 1099 instead of a W-2. If you’ve ever had to answer “how much should I actually set aside for taxes,” this site is for you.

What you’ll find here

Start with the calculators — self-employment tax and quarterly estimated payments today, with more being added over time — for the numbers you need right now. Around them sits a growing set of plain-English guides: what you can actually write off and who qualifies for it, without the jargon; platform-specific breakdowns for DoorDash, Uber, eBay, OnlyFans, and other gig work, since each one reports your income a little differently; and timely coverage whenever a rule actually changes — a new IRS instruction, a shifted deduction — explained as what changed and what to do about it, not just that it happened.

What we don’t do

We don’t file forms on your behalf, we don’t charge you for anything the IRS or SSA gives out for free, and we don’t claim to be your accountant. Every calculator and guide here is general information based on published IRS rules — it’s a starting point for understanding your numbers, not a replacement for a tax professional when your situation gets complicated.

TaxSoloist is an independent, privately run site. We are not affiliated with the IRS, the Social Security Administration, or any government agency.
